Custom Awnings in Pietermaritzburg

Custom awnings for patios, braai areas and entertainment spots. Built to fit your space and your style.

Awnings for Every Outdoor Space

We love being outdoors in SA, and a good awning means you can use your patio or braai area — rain or shine. At Tinashe Carports & Awnings, we build custom awnings that give you more usable space and keep everything protected.

We use the same quality materials as our steel carports — galvanised steel or aluminium frames with chromadek, polycarbonate or IBR roofing. Every awning is built to suit your home and match your colours.

Popular Awning Applications

  • Patio covers — Cover your patio so you can use it all year — sun or rain.
  • Braai area awnings — Keep the rain off your braai while still letting the smoke out. Every SA home needs one.
  • Entertainment area covers — Give yourself a covered spot to host friends and family outside.
  • Walkway covers — Cover the walkway between your house and outbuildings.
  • Window awnings — Keep the heat out and protect your windows from direct sun.

Material Options

We offer the same material choices as our carport range. For covered patios where you want natural light, polycarbonate panels are a good option — they block UV while letting light through. For full weather protection, chromadek provides a solid, colour-matched roof. All frames are available in galvanised steel, powder-coated steel, or aluminium. See our project gallery for examples.

Awning Pricing

  • Small patio awning (up to 3m x 3m): From approximately R12,000

Awning FAQ

Can an awning be attached to my house wall?
Yes. Most of our patio and braai area awnings attach directly to the house wall or fascia board on one side, with support poles on the outer edge. We ensure proper waterproofing at the wall junction.
Do I need building plans for an awning?
Small to medium awnings typically don’t require plans. For larger structures over 20sqm, you may need approval from Msunduzi Municipality. We can advise during the site inspection.
What is the difference between an awning and a carport?
Functionally they are similar structures. The term awning generally refers to a cover attached to a building — for patios, walkways or windows. A carport typically covers a vehicle parking area and can be freestanding or attached.
